Understanding the Process Behind ClearCorrect®

Clearcorrect Carmichael, CA

The process of ClearCorrect® may look slightly different for every patient, but there are certain steps in the process that are more common. You can decide whether ClearCorrect® is right for you and prepare yourself physically and mentally by gaining a better understanding of the process and what each step involves.

The ClearCorrect® process

ClearCorrect is on average faster than traditional braces, and the process can take anywhere from six months to two years, depending on the severity of the misalignment and how well the patient follows their treatment plan. The most common steps involved with ClearCorrect are the initial consultation, customizing the aligners, wearing the aligners, and the aftercare process.

The first visit

Anyone who is interested in ClearCorrect treatment for a straighter smile should visit a dentist who offers treatment for a consultation. During the consultation, the patient and the dentist can discuss treatment goals and the dentist typically performs an oral examination and dental X-rays to determine whether the patient is a good candidate. This is also a good time for the patient to ask any questions or discuss any concerns they have about ClearCorrect. In some instances, the dentist may recommend preparation procedures before starting ClearCorrect, such as dental fillings, teeth whitening, or periodontal disease treatment.

Customizing the aligners

Each ClearCorrect aligner is custom-made to slowly pull teeth into a well-aligned position. To custom make the aligners, the dentist uses a dental impression, which uses the patient’s bite to form the aligners in a laboratory. The dental impression is taken either on the initial consultation or during a follow-up visit. It may take up to several weeks for the ClearCorrect aligners to arrive back to the dentist, after which the patient can begin treatment.

Receiving new aligners

The patient can begin wearing the ClearCorrect aligners as soon as they arrive. It may take the patient a few days to get adjusted to wearing the aligners, but it is important to continue wearing them as directed even if minor discomfort occurs. The patient receives new aligners every couple of weeks as teeth shift into their ideal position. This continues until treatment is complete. There may be some dietary restrictions, and good oral hygiene is important during treatment to prevent issues such as stained teeth, cavities, and gum disease.

Aftercare and retainer wear

Once the patient achieves the desired alignment of their smile, then the aftercare process begins. This involves wearing a retainer to prevent teeth from shifting back to their original position. Routine visits with the ClearCorrect dentist are also important. The dentist may also recommend a teeth cleaning and teeth whitening procedure during the aftercare process, along with providing care instructions long-term to keep teeth looking great for years to come.
